GOP on border They don’t actually wanna solve this

Sen. Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.) went after former President Trump and other Republicans on the topic of the border Wednesday, stating “they don’t actually wanna solve this problem, they just wanna talk about it.” Kelly, a potential vice presidential pick for likely Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris, criticized Republicans for submarining an emerging border deal earlier this year. “Our goal here was to get this legislation passed, and then start working on comprehensive immigration reform, but this was stopped dead in its tracks by Donald Trump, because he wanted to have this as an election issue,” Kelly said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” of a bipartisan border bill that was shot down twice by the Senate following pressure from Trump against it. “Like a lot of other Republicans, they don’t wanna actually solve this problem, they just wanna talk about it,” Kelly added. “Where this is a complicated issue, one thing is pretty basic,” Kelly said. “And that’s that we had an agreement. Another consideration is that these assets could be needed in a larger potential war with NATO. Russia has kept much of its airpower and some of its most advanced aircraft out of the war in Ukraine. Defense experts say doing so signals Russian worries about Ukraine's air-defense game but also considerations beyond this fight to one with NATO. John Baum, an airpower expert at the Mitchell Institute who's a retired US Air Force lieutenant colonel, told Business Insider that the Russians "could bring more-advanced aircraft into the fight" but that "they simply haven't done that yet." Some Kremlin claims aside, there's no evidence Russia has used its Su-57s over Ukraine itself, despite the aircraft, at least on paper, being Russia's most advanced plane and supposedly built for a war in which the airspace is heavily contested.
